Practical Information & Advice for Marmaris

Marmaris is a coastal town, a port city and a tourist destination on the southwest Mediterranean coast of Turkey, in the Mugla Province. Marmaris is one of the Turkey's most popular holiday towns and largest resorts on the Aegean coast.

Language
Turkish is the official language, but English is widely understood in the town.

Local time is GMT +2 (GMT +3 from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October).

220 volts AC, 50Hz. The European two-pin plug is standard.

The international country dialing code for Turkey is +90. City code for Marmaris is 252. (+ 90 252 xxx xx xx ). GSM 900 and 1800 networks cover most of the country. There are numerous Internet cafes in the town.

Money
Turkish Lira (TL) is the currency.

Banks and Exchange Offices

Banks are open weekdays between 09:00 am. to 12:30 pm. in the mornings and 01:30 pm. to 05:00 pm. in the afternoons. Some banks are open on Saturdays and also during lunch hours between 12.30 - 01.30 pm. There are numerous exchange offices in Marmaris. You are able to find an exchange office in any corner of Marmaris.

Passport and Visa Information
U.S. and European citizens need a valid passport to enter Turkey and stay up to 90 days with a tourist visa. Before you travel to Turkey, also make sure your passport is valid for at least 90 days. There is no need for an application for tourist visas. You are able to purchase your visa at the Turkish Airports upon your arrival. There are visa desks by the passport control points. The visas for - UK citizens cost £10, - EU state nationals cost €15, - US citizens cost $20. Prices are valid till October 31, 2011. Each passport holder including infants must purchase a Visa. Visas are valid for 3 months.

 
 

Transportation
Transportation through Marmaris can be made via dolmus (midibus), taxis, taxi boats and vehicle/car hire.

Public transportation via dolmus is the most practical and popular one. In addition,  bus tours for excursions are popular in Marmaris and especially the guided ones are the best choices as they enable the visitors to navigate the town and sights easily.

Weather
Marmaris has a perfect Aegean & Mediterranean climate. Summer is hot and winter is rainy. The hottest months are July and August. The average annual temperature is 25°C. January is the coolest month with an average temperature of 17 °C and July is the warmest month with an average temperature of 35 °C.
