Bozukkale is a nice region on
the southwest of
Marmaris and
worth seeing. Bozukkale harbor
is popular for the blue voyage
yachts and boats with its
protective area.
The Gulf had strategic value in
the past centuries. The fleet of
Athens have moored here in 1412
BC and also have gathered here
in 395 BC for the Knidos Sea
War. The cove hosts lots of
yachts and boats today and there
are restaurants serving the
boats.
The ancient city of Loryma (7th
century BC) is also in the
region. The most protected
remnant is the Castle in the
harbor with a 120 meters of
height and 10 meters of width.
The condition of the Castle is
good.
It has nine aquare towers on the
top walls. There are no remnants
of any building inside the
castle now.
During the era of Byzantiums,
the area was a the fleet base
and weapon warehouse.
The ancient city is hard to go.
You need go to the
Bozukkale
Harbor by sea and then there you
need to hike about 2 hours. But
it worth seeing.
There is a small lake named
"Kiran" nearby the Loryma
ancient city which has a
diameter of 30 meters. The lake
gets dry in the summer season.
